And, here's the one other major thing that's been keeping me distracted lately...I'm repainting my house...slowly, one room at a time, but it will get done completely.  If anyone remembers, a while back I posted some pics of when I was redecorating my house...well, it was more refurnishing.  Now begins the redecorating.  First, painting, then fixtures, eventually flooring.  Gonna be a project but it'll get done.  For anyone interested, we've just finished the master bed and bath.  And, of course, I have pics to share.  I'm pretty proud as I've never painted a room before.  Thanks to my dad, thought, now I have...Take a look.

You know...I worked at a movie theater for a bit a few years ago.  As a perk, we didn't have to pay to come see movies.  Employees just showed up and went in an out as we wanted.  So, when I gave it up for a higher paying, full-time, offers actual benefits, grown-up job, I found it hard to go back to paying for movies...especially when the prices started going up.  Of course, I found it in my tight budget to work in a showing or two of Return Of the King, since it was the last of the Lord Of the Rings movies to come out and only came out about a month after I had left.  But, I can honestly say I have not been to or paid for a movie theater admission since.  That is until a couple weeks ago.  I actually paid to go see Magic Mike.  I mean, come on...how many movies about male strippers do we get, lads and ladies?  Not nearly enough, right?  So, of course, I had to go...and then, last week, Kim and I went back and took my soon-to-be-stepmom Sherry with us since she hadn't seen it.  After years of refusing to pay their exorbitant rates, I've finally gone back to the movies...

And, then today...Not exactly how The Dark Knight Rises wanted to make headlines...Not exactly how the residents of Aurora, CO, wanted to get famous...I can't even imagine what's going on there right now...See, when I worked at the theater we commonly attended the midnight showings of new movies...almost like a sneak peek the world didn't get to have.  Everyone going that weekend, we'd be like, "Oh, I saw that. You're going to love it!"  It was fun...staying up and out late...seeing what everyone wanted to see but couldn't just yet...And, then this...Some freak just decides to slaughter a theater full of people for no reason other than he could...I mean, that could have happened anywhere...your theater, mine...in a Dark Knight screening or a Magic Mike...I know it's probably, odds say so anyway, a freak occurrence that is unlikely to repeat...at least on that scale.  But, I can't help but wonder, you know?  I can't help but be a bit nervous about going back...ridiculously paranoid, I know.  But, human emotions can be and are ridiculous at times...

Anyway, paranoia aside, let our thoughts, prayers, healing energies, whatever we have be with the victims and their families right now...I can't imagine what they are going through and will continue to go through for a long time to come.  We are thinking of you, Aurora...stay strong and you'll make it through.

In honor of the victims of Aurora, CO.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Trayvon Martin story (which may be a couple of you guys since some of you are outside of my dear ol' U.S.), let me update you...

Back in February, a 17-year-old African-Amercian boy was walking home from the store where he had gone to get his future step-brother some candy.  It was windy and raining, so the young man, who was wearing a hoodie, had his hood pulled up.  To his misfortune, neighborhood watch captain 28-year-old George Zimmerman saw him and declared him "suspicious."  Yeah...young, black kid walking on the street wearing a hoodie is apparently automatically suspicious...So, he called 911 and reported this "suspicious" sight.  He told them he was going to follow this kid and find out what trouble he was up to.  911 told this guy to leave the kid alone and they would take care of anything that needed taking care of.  He ignored the instructions and followed the kid, informing the operator that the kid was unarmed.  That's right.  This "suspicious" character did not have a weapon while he was walking down a public street.  So, he got out of his car (yeah, he was following this pedestrian with his car) and confronted the boy while still on the phone with 911.  The tapes then recorded sounds of a struggle along with someone screaming in the background.  Then there was the gunshot.  George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in, what he calls, self-defense.

Okay...Zimmerman spotted a young, black boy walking in the rain with his hood up and decided he was up to no good.  He notified the authorities who told him to back off and let them do their jobs.  Zimmerman ignored these instructions and, not only proceeded to continue following this boy, but also decided a confrontation was in order.  So, he instigated a fight with this 17-year-old boy and ended up shooting this unarmed child and claiming he did so because his life was in danger...Yeah...I'm not buying what this guy is selling.  Are you?

Apparently the Florida authorities were...at least, for a while.  Seems they finally gotten off their...tails and are doing something about this guy.  Almost two months after Trayvon Martin was hunted down and murdered, George Zimmerman will now face murder charges.  It only took the state's attorney of Florida stepping down and letting someone else do what he should have done all along.  It only took the entire country screaming out for justice for this young man to get the authorities to step in and say, "Okay, he was wrong.  We'll make him accountable for it."  George Zimmerman never should have had the last two months of freedom to walk around and live his life.  He never should have gotten away from that scene without his hands locked in cuffs.  But he did...and for two months he has been touting racial stereotypes and stilted statistics to justify his own racism and repulsive, hate-motivated actions.  Now, the authorities have finally stepped up.  May justice smile on young Trayvon Martin and lead George Zimmerman deep into the depths of the Florida State Corrections System where he belongs.

Rest well, Trayvon.  May your family one day find the peace that we know you have.

I just got the e-mail from AFER (American Foundation for Equal Rights) alerting me to the decision by the 9th Court of Appeals decision...Prop H8 is STILL unconstitutional!!  Yep...another court has told the hate-mongers that they aren't allowed to take away the rights of others simply because they have a majority vote.  Nice, huh?  Now, I don't buy for a minute that it's all over in California.  No doubt these guys went straight to their lawyers' offices to figure out their next step in demanding that our government find a way to deny hard-working, tax-paying American citizens basic human rights, but, as I have quoted before, we must "mourn the losses because they are many, but celebrate the victories because they are few."  (Thank you, Debbie Novotony.)

Check out the story for yourself here...

Well, guys, Kim and I just got back from the vet a couple of hours ago.  We took her cat Nala in to have her looked at because she wasn't doing too well.  Turns out she was in kinda rough shape.  She was hypertensive (super high blood pressure) and looks like she had been for a while, which explained why she had recently gone totally blind.  That coupled with her other symptoms (steadily losing weight while still eating, increasing weakness in her muscles, loss of balance, deterioration of other senses, etc.) led the vet (who, ironically enough, I went to high school with) to suspect hyperthyroidism, which is treatable.  Bad news is that the treatment for it would have caused Nala's kidneys, which they tested and found to be already failing, to completely shut down.  In fact, if it hadn't been for the super high blood pressure literally forcing blood into the kidneys, they would've been gone already.  So, catch-22, here we are...don't treat the thyroid and wait for the blood pressure to cause another stroke or treat it and watch her kidneys fail even faster.

Now, the vet assured us that Nala wasn't in pain or suffering a great deal at this precise moment but also warned us that the time is quickly coming when that would change.  So, we had to make a decision...yeah, THAT decision.  Do we wait until she starts hurting and keep her around for a few more weeks or months, at most, or do we go ahead and let her go now before the pain begins?  Well, as difficult as it is, it's really not a choice...She may not have been suffering right now...but it was coming and coming fast.  And, she's been too good a cat and too good a friend to wait until she is suffering.  Seventeen is a good span for a cat...My little buddy Boo was just past eighteen.  And, I know the vet said she didn't seem to be in pain, but I've seen her...everyday...she didn't look like she was comfortable.  She was literally skin and bones, cold all the time...bumping into things, looking anxious.  It was painful to watch...nowhere near as painful as watching my sister say good-bye to her baby, but I am absolutely convinced letting Nala go now, before she got so debilitated and worn down that she began to hurt, was the right decision.  As much as we are going to miss her and much as it hurts not to have her around after seventeen years, I still have no doubts she's better off now than she was...now, she isn't scared or hurting or hungry or cold anymore.  Now, she can finally be at peace.  And, she deserves that...

Well, gang, yours truly is in mourning along with millions of others around the 'web today...As you are aware if you are here, I enjoy making music vids out of clips from my favorite television shows.  (I know, I've been pretty absent lately, but I swear I'm still here.)  Well, to get said clips I have to download copies of the shows.  Now, the majority of these shows are shows that I already own on DVD or Blu-ray so I have absolutely no guilt regarding downloading them.  After all, all I'm doing is obtaining cyber-copies of what I already paid for.  Now, admittedly, I have indulged in other things...a free movie here, a free CD there.  But, for the most part, if I see something online that I enjoy, I go and actually buy the DVD or CD.  It's more an insurance policy for me...to make sure I'm going to enjoy what I'm spending, what in many cases is, a lot of money on.  And, I am not the only one...there are millions of us "pirates" out there...Simply sampling the material before we purchase...like a movie-goer's test-drive.

Now, to why I'm wasting your time with all this and why so many of us are upset...For those who don't know (and, I didn't until I got home from work a couple of hours ago) Megaupload.com, one of the biggest file-sharing sites on the 'web, was shut down today and several of it's top executives were arrested on piracy charges...Check out the story here.  Okay...let me get this straight...they rent out space to individual users who have to agree to their Terms of Service, which state that the posting of copyrighted material is prohibited; those users violate the TOS and post the stuff anyway; and, Megaupload itself is responsible, not the individual violators...Yeah, that makes all kinds of sense that doesn't.

Seriously, they tried this crap with YouTube years ago...so what did YouTube do?  They came back with a bunch of warnings and stricter policies regarding censoring their users file-sharing.  But, they came back!!  They tried this with Napster...they shut it down, and what happened?  Kazaa popped up to replace it...shut it down and more sites came up to replace those...Are these guys ever going to learn?  It's not going to stop with one site...or even if they enact SOPA and start shutting down multiple sites...more will come back...it's a war they cannot win...

Hey, Hollywood fat-cats, let me give you some advice...If you weren't charging $20 a freakin' ticket to see a two-hour movie (and that doesn't count the snacks) maybe people wouldn't be looking for ways to get them for free...if we weren't more concerned with $4 a gallon gas prices and weekly increases in the price of milk, maybe we could afford to pay your exorbitant prices...You want to shut down pirates?  Make your product affordable again...Remember when you and a friend could go to the movies, get a little popcorn, maybe a soda a piece and enjoy yourselves for all of $20 for the both of you?  I do...and, guys, I'm not that old...your prices have just gone that high that fast.  You aren't going to win in a war of pricey luxury vs. free luxury.  People will find a way around you and all your legal mumbo jumbo.  Why don't you spend more time worrying about how to make good movies and present them affordably than crying over being outsmarted by the cash-strapped public??

And, as for the FBI...let's just hope their masters over that the MPAA give them their well-deserved pats on the heads for being good, little doggies...maybe even scratch them behind the ear and toss them a Milk Bone...I mean, seriously.  They are shutting down file-sharing sites...are there no missing kids that they need to be looking for or murderers that need to be hunted down? (Hey, I watch Bones, I know these things.)  Shouldn't our governmental authorities be focusing on the real, violent, dangerous crooks out there instead freaking out over a nerd and his computer?  But, that would mean growing a spine and standing up to special interest groups like the MPAA...so...here ya go, FBI.  Good boys...yes, that's a good boy!!  Maybe if we toss 'em a Snausage, they'll roll over for us, too...

What's going on with me...let's just jump right in, shall we?  I finally ordered my sister's Christmas gifts.  Yay, right?  Given the trouble I had deciding what they were.  Last night I get an e-mail...the most important part of the gifts has been canceled due to being out of stock, which they didn't bother to tell me when I ordered it or when they charged my credit card.  Now, everything else I ordered was bought to match this thing...so, now I'm royally screwed.  To use the example I gave my sister, it's like buying a laptop and all the accessories for that specific model, only to be told they don't have that model but are going to ship you all the accessories anyway...Now, I have nowhere near enough money for the computer she wants so it's a bogus example, but it fits the situation that Amazon put me in with what I actually did buy (which I can't say since she reads this.)  So, I spend all night last night trying to find away to fix this without having to scrap everything and start over...And, I can fix it...It's just going to cost an extra three hundred bucks.  Lovely, right?  Since I'm just rolling in dough..But, it's done...expensively and stressfully but it's done...I hope...

So, this morning I drop off my little kitten Wicket (you may have seen her picture in my other posts) at the vet to get spayed.  I come home and discover that the Harry Potter Blu-Rays my sister ordered for her friend at work have been delivered by the post office to...someone else!!  According to their website, they were delivered to my house on December 7, 2011...which is the day I actually got a package that was supposed to go to my neighbor down the street.  Lovely...So, I call the post office and they say they are going to talk to the delivery guy and get back to me.  I call Amazon to tell them I never got my discs but I've been charged for them.  The woman at Amazon tells me they can get me a refund but not a replacement since they aren't making these anymore...Let me get this straight...Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts 1 & 2 that just came out a couple weeks ago, and they've already stopped making them...Yeah, I'm not buying that.  So, I talk to someone else...He also doesn't know where she came up with that because, not only are they still manufactured, but they have them in stock.  So he's promised to overnight replacements to my house at no charge since we need them by Thursday for Kim's Christmas party/dinner thing.  So, they should be here tomorrow.  As for the postman, his supervisor told me that she told him he better start knocking on doors because if she doesn't have the discs on her desk tomorrow, he better come up with the forty dollars they cost me.

So, that's my day...except for the phone call from the vet that I just go.  Turns out that my darling baby girl is...a bouncing baby BOY!!  They got Wick under the anesthetic and shaved for surgery only to discover that she's a HE!  Kelly, the receptionist/nurse, called me and was so apologetic since she's the one who sexed them when they were a few weeks old.  Apparently, mixing up boys and girls is pretty common with kittens, and the younger they are the more likely a mistake is.  What she felt the worst about was, had we known he was getting neutered and not spayed, it could have been done and HE could have been home hours ago.  Now, HE is staying overnight since HE didn't get into surgery until late because spaying takes longer than neutering.  Four months I've been referring to "my little girl."  And, this isn't likely to change overnight...habits take time to break.  Poor cat is going to have gender issues for a while...

Gotta tell you, folks...I'm quickly reaching the end of my proverbial rope.  You know the expression "waiting for the other shoe to drop?"  Well, I've had a closet worth dumped on me these last couple weeks...hopefully, I can spend this week off work slowly digging my way out...

My baby BOY

I'm just about done with Christmas...and, unfortunately, I don't mean in the lovely, I'm-finally-finished-with-my-shopping way.  I mean, I'm DONE!  I'm over it...finished...finito!  Christmas is supposed to be about fun and love and feeling like a little kid all over again.  It's not supposed to stress you out to the point of screaming into a pillow until you can't breath every frickin' day!  I just...I'm over it...I really, really am.  Things were going so well at first.  We got our shopping done really early, gifts are coming in every day so I can get them wrapped and under the tree.  My dad was going to put up my new house lights so that, with all my new, pricey decorations, my house was going to look fantastic for the whole month of December...Now...

Well, the store didn't have the house lights we wanted, and since that's the only place in the world that sells them (sarcasm, don't you love it) they didn't get done the one pretty day we've had in two weeks...so about one third of my decorations are up and my house looks pretty much like every other house on the street except I have reindeer in the front yard...The gifts are getting wrapped on schedule...except for the most important person's (my sister) who I haven't even bought for yet.  Why not, you ask?  Let's get into that...She sent out her wish list for Christmas with about twelve things on there...in spite of knowing, that there are about fifteen people using said list.  Then, when I decide what I'm going to get (which she will soooooooo love) my dad says no way, he's getting that for her and I need to find something else....except that there's not much else on the list...like one big thing (can't say here, cause she reads this) and a ton of little things.  So, dad's getting her the big thing, her friends are getting her the little things and I'm left out in the freakin' cold....then today I found out that one of her friends was planning on getting her the big thing too....She specifically asked everyone to coordinate with me to avoid repeat gifts, but does any of these people pay attention....of course, not...that would be easy and right and fair and we can't do that.  So I'm online looking and looking and I find something pretty good...except I can't get it by Christmas...great.  So, I come up with another idea...except I can't afford that...so what about...nope, they don't have any more of those...or those in the right size...

I'm just so done...I'm so freakin' over Christmas right now...I really, really am...I'm sick of being frustrated, I'm tired of being tired, and I'm absolutely fed up with being stressed.  It's supposed to be fun, but right now?  It's really, REALLY not...
